Last year Davina Dosanjh reached out to me for assistance with updating her team's work wardrobes. As the owner of an optometrist practice, Davina wanted her team to dress as individuals instead of wearing the same uniform, while still maintaining a sense of unity that represented the company brand.
I was thrilled to hear from Davina, as it's not often that business owners are willing to let their staff express their individuality in their attire. But she trusted her team, knowing that they were dedicated to the business and would represent the Richard Petrie brand well.
With four months to prepare for a photoshoot to update the company website, Davina wanted the team to appear vibrant and energetic, reflecting the energy of their services and their new styling service with Italian frames. So, I met with the team to discuss the power of wearing colors that suit their individual skin tones, as well as how to combine workwear colors while maintaining a professional appearance.
After a team discussion, I consulted with each team member individually to discover their wardrobe preferences and dislikes, followed by a color analysis to determine their best colors and makeup shades. With a workwear allowance provided, we shopped online for their wardrobes and were able to purchase at least two new outfits for each staff member. They were also able to combine their looks with a range of stylish frames from the store's collection to enhance their impact.
Layering
Layers provide numerous options as a shirt may be worn on its own, over a T shirt or under a smart jumper, jacket or gilet. Layers are a great way to deal with changing weather too as light layers can be worn in a warm office and along with extra pieces on a cold day. Interesting layers in a combination of colours will offer a modern, multifunctional wardrobe.
Colours and Visibility
Wearing colours that mix and match makes combining items easier and provides a capsule wardrobe. Several pairs of trousers in colours like navy, grey and tan can be mixed with a number of coloured tops and up to date jackets, providing many outfits. Through a process of colour analysis, I’ll show clients the shades that suit them personally and those which help to make them appear more visible and vibrant - visibility being important as we are seen regularly on screen. My clients are provided with a palette of their own colours which blend together beautifully, making shopping and dressing become and more productive.
Accessories
Accessories will make or break an outfit therefore consider the ones you choose, especially for work. It’s worth buying good quality pieces like shoes, bags and watches and keeping them maintained as they will make your outfits appear more groomed. Accessories in contrasting colours will also help to update your outfit. If you wear glasses, there’s now more choice in colour and style so why not have several pairs to give variety to your look. Interesting frames offer more definition and visibility to your image on-line along with your profile photograph.
As we had chosen clothing that harmonized with the business brand colors, it was easy to coordinate outfits for the photoshoot. The resulting photographs speak for themselves, showcasing a vibrant and energetic representation of the team that brings color to the Richard Petrie website and inspires clients to book their styling service.
